Mariana and Roy first met online. Mariana was checking her email one day when she found a message from Roy, who had seen her profile on LavaLife.com. And a few hours later, she received another email from Roy – this time in response to her profile on Yahoo! Personals, where her photo wasn’t present. Mariana was instantly impressed with his consistency and decided that she just had to write him back. She was intrigued by his profile; he struck her as very intelligent and honest. Roy was extremely delighted to hear from Mariana, as he was really hoping to get a response from this interesting, intelligent and beautiful young lady. Four weeks of countless instant messages and emails later, and with a lot of convincing from Roy, Mariana finally agreed to meet in person for the first time. Mariana picked out a very nice sushi place for a dinner date, where Roy impressed her with his “interesting” ideas and thoughtfulness; Mariana loved the fact that he cut large sushi pieces into smaller pieces for her. After intense dating over the next five months, Mariana and Roy knew that their relationship was developing into a very special one; their openness and honesty allowed their relationship to mature very quickly. They found themselves to be extremely compatible, sharing the same values and long-term goals. So, they began hinting to each other about their intentions, and on August 6th, 2004, Roy decided to reveal his commitment to Mariana, asking her to become his wife.
